HONOR
The Bible teaches us to seek honor from God and not man. In Matthew 23:5 it mentions those who did their works to be seen of men. Read Matthew 6:3-6. Christ called them hypocrites! Our works will be seen, but we work to please God. If man tries to honor you, accept it graciously, referring the honor to God. In
John 5:41 Jesus said, “I receive not honour from men.”
How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? John 5:44.
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my father honour. John 12:26.
(6) Who will render to every man according to his deeds: (7) To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: (8) But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, (9) Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; (10) But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: (11) For there is no respect of persons with God. Romans 2:6-11.
Although we are not to SEEK honor from men, we are to honor each other as brothers and sisters in the Lord. Romans 12:10 says to, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”
(12) And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;
(13) And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13.
Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1 Timothy 5:17
